Name the weather. Since 1954 meteorologists based at the Berliner Wetterkarte have been naming the high and low pressure systems over Central Europe. For the past 20 years, for a fee, the nonprofit organization Berliner Wetterkarte e. V. and Freie Universität have been giving individuals the right to name the pressure systems. The money taken in is used to finance the activities at the weather station in Berlin-Dahlem, where students observe and record weather phenomena every day, continuing a 115-year old tradition of climate documentation.

Sources and additional information

Sponsoring a high or low pressure system is a popular and rather unique gift for special occasions, birthdays, or Christmas. Many people use it as an opportunity to promote their interesting but little known first names. These are some of the more unusual names given in 2022: Spiro, Xilotzin, Bahrudin, Lavinia, Wisgard, or Emmelinde.
