Learning on both sides. Since 2018 imprisoned students have been attending classes along with other students. The topic is “Society, Encounters, and Freedom,” and the classes take place in a prison. It was set up as an initiative made by the Department of Law at Freie Universität in cooperation with the nonprofit organization Tatort Zukunft, Humboldt-Universität, and Alice-Salomon-Hochschule. The intention is for the students to learn together and from each other.
Sources and additional informationSince the 2018/2019 winter semester the Department of Law at Freie Universität Berlin has been cooperating with the nonprofit organization Tatort Zukunft, Alice-Salomon-Hochschule, and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin to teach a series of classes called “Uni im Vollzug.” Within the framework of this program, seminars take place in a prison and are attended by imprisoned students along with non-imprisoned students. The endeavor is supported by the Berlin Senate Department for Justice and Consumer Protection and Tegel Prison (JVA Tegel).
