This Prize is awarded to a scientist who has conducted distinguished research in the areas supported by the Foundation : Ethology, Paleontology, Archaeology, Anthropology, Psychology, Epistemology, Logic and Sciences of the Nervous System.
Theme for the International Prize 2016: The Archaeology of Social Complexity.
Social complexity is one of the central characteristics of our species, and it is expressed through human behaviour at the individual, population and inter-regional levels, and is reflected in many aspects of material culture. The prize will be awarded to a scholar who has significantly advanced our understanding of the relationship between social complexity and variables such as identity, technology, and exchange. Amount of the prize awarded: 60 000 euros.
