Open Science/Research aims to make all parts of the research cycle spanning knowledge creation, evaluation and communication as accessible, transparent, reproducible and reusable as possible for as many people as possible. It applies to all disciplines, the sciences and the humanities, from archaeology to zoology. Hence the terms 'Open Science' and 'Open Research' can be used interchangeably and are applied by us in an inclusive, broad manner. Open Science/Research covers (but is not limited to):

  • Transparent and reproducible research
  • Open access to research publications
  • Research data sharing
  • Open educational resources
  • Open source research software and code
  • Open hardware
  • Open research infrastructure
  • Open engagement of societal actors
  • Open dialogue with other knowledge systems
  • ...

Mission Statement for Open Science at the Berlin University Alliance

On May 22, 2023, the Board of Directors approved a draft mission statement for Open Science at BUA. The mission statement is the result of an extensive consultation within BUA and is currently being discussed by the Academic Senates and the Faculty Council of Charité. With the mission statement, BUA provides itself with a framework for action to further deepen and promote Open Science.
