We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher (100%) to participate in a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Israeli Science Foundation (ISF). The project is being conducted at Freie Universität Berlin and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and is entitled "Gender Role and Justice Attitudes Through the Prisms of Religion and Religiosity." The project will examine the relation between gender role attitudes and religion or religiosity using a register-based population survey with experimental elements conducted simultaneously in Israel and Germany. Innovative survey instruments will be developed and used based on concepts and findings from empirical social justice research. The research associate is to collaborate with members of the research team in the design and production of survey data, as well as in the analysis and publications produced in this context.

 Job description:

• Theoretical and data-based scientific contributions on the relationship between attitudes towards gender roles, perceptions and preferences for justice in partnerships and religion or religiosity in a comparative perspective.

• Taking responsibility for designing and implementing a register-based population survey in Germany and Israel and the development of innovative survey instruments (e.g. factorial survey design)

• Publishing empirically grounded research, together with the project team, preferably in international, peer-reviewed journals

 Requirements:

A doctoral degree in Sociology, Demography or a related social science discipline with a focus on quantitative methods and survey-based research

 Desirable:

• Experience in the use of standard international research data sets in the social sciences (e.g. ESS, ISSP, GGS)

• Profound knowledge and experience of quantitative methods of empirical social research;
• Knowledge in the field of empirical research on gender roles, attitudes towards justice and/or religion

• Competence in survey research methods, including developing questionnaires and survey experiments;

• Competence in statistical programs (STATA, R etc.)
• Ability to write and publish in social science journals;
• Strong organizational and communication skills;
• Excellent command of written and spoken English, preferably also another language (e.g. Hebrew).
