Fachbereich Physik - Institut für Experimentalphysik AG Weinelt
Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 4 years salary grade (Entgeltgruppe) 13 TV-L FU reference code: Postdoc_BerLUXS

The AG Weinelt studies ultrafast dynamics in quantum materials initiated by ultrashort optical laser pulses. This includes single and collective quasiparticle dynamics to unravel signatures of non-equilibrium dynamics and phase transitions in the transient electronic structure. We have a strong background and reputation in state-selective and spin-sensitive time- and angle-resolved photoemission techniques. Beyond our laboratory-based research, we established new experimental infrastructure at the FemtoSlicing facility of the Synchrotron Source BESSY II (Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin) and are building a new end station for FLASH. With this new state-of-the-art experimental equipment for time-resolved X-ray scattering and absorption, we study state- and element-specific dynamics. Our research focuses on the established CRC/TRR 227 Ultrafast Spin Dynamics, the new CRC 1772 Heterostructures of Molecules & 2D Materials, and the new Cluster of Excellence for Chiral Electronics. We are FU partners in the Berlin Joint Laboratory on Ultrafast X-ray Science (BerLUXS) and the German-Eastern European Laboratory for Energy Materials Research (GELEM) at the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin.
Job description:
AG Weinelt is searching for a Postdoc in the field of Ultrafast Spin and Electron Dynamics, who is experienced in performing time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy experiments at large-scale facilities, in particular synchrotrons and Free Electron Lasers. You will work as a postdoc in a team of staff scientists, postdocs and PhD students as member of the Berlin Joint Laboratory for Ultrafast X-ray Slicing (BerLUXS) centered at the Femtoslicing Facility of BESSY II, Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB), which has been recently established between Freie Universität Berlin and HZB. BerLUXS is a core facility and project for the Collaborative Research Center TRR 227 on Ultrafast Spin Dynamics. You will develop, carry out and support experiments at the Femtoslicing Facility and take part in beamtimes at other largescale facilities. You are experienced to work in a team including PhD and Master students and will co-supervise their thesis works. The position serves the scientific qualification in the field of research and the acquisition of skills in the field of ultrafast carrier and spin dynamics in solid state materials. You will become an associated member of CRC/TRR 227.
You are willing to participate in the subordinate teaching of the physics department.
Requirements:
Doctorate in physics
Desirable:
The desired qualifications of the applicant include relevant experience in the following subject areas: ultrafast spin dynamics and magnetism, experiments at large-scale facilities (synchrotrons and FELs), time-resolved X-ray spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum technology, thin film growth, construction and operation of UHV equipment.
