The research group for Science Communication on Mathematics is unique internationally: it combines mathematics-related science communication with empirical research and establishes this connection as an independent field of research. Embedded in the MATH+ Cluster of Excellence, the group offers an excellent scientific environment and various opportunities for networking. It is based at the Institute of Mathematics at Freie Universität Berlin and is funded by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung.

MIP.labor is the group's research laboratory. Here, we collaborate with MIP.labor fellows to develop new science journalism formats related to current research in mathematics, computer science, and physics. Research and practice fuel each other.

To manage and further develop the MIP.labor, we are looking for a committed full-time coordinator (m/f/d) (TV-L 14) to start as soon as possible, with a fixed-term contract until March 31, 2028.
 
Job description:
Coordination is a central management function within MIP.labor. It links research with responsibility for planning and implementing fellowship projects.
It investigates the format development process and provides content and organizational guidance. Other tasks include planning project budgets and coordinating network and presentation. In accordance with the head of the research group, the coordinator makes strategic decisions regarding the design of the methodological and scientific development of the programme.

The tasks are:
- Research, planning, and management of format development, including selection procedures and scheduling
- Conducting scientific workshops on topic selection and format development
- Developing innovative, interdisciplinary research formats
- Supervising students and visiting scientists
- Budget planning for fellow projects and content-related monitoring of production
- Coordinating communication and public relations for MIP.labor, especially on social media and through networking
- Quality control of formats
- Preparing scientific publications
- Team coordination
- Occasional travel (approx. 2-3 times per year) to scientific conferences and meetings
- Organizing the science journalism program section of our annual symposium
 
Requirements:
- Completed university degree in a relevant subject (e.g., mathematics, computer science, physics, communication science)
 
(Professional) Experience:
- At least three years of professional experience
- Experience in coordinating and managing complex projects
- Leadership experience
 
Desirable:
- Very good written and spoken German and English
- Sound experience in science communication and/or science journalism
- Strategic thinking, sense of responsibility, and ability to work in a team
- Willingness to work closely with the head of the research group
- Gender and Diversity competence
