The sociology department at the John F. Kennedy Institute teaches and studies the political economy of the United States in comparative and historical perspective combining data-driven computational approaches with informed institutional analyses of capitalism, finance and insurance, housing and welfare states as well as policing and drawing on theories from Comparative Political Economy, historical and economic sociology.

 Job description:
- internationally visible research output aiming at publication in refereed journals and book series
- participation in teaching
- active participation in applying for third-party funding
- The successful candidate has the opportunity to develop her/his academic profile (PhD#degree).

Requirements:
Master’s degree in sociology or neighboring social sciences

Desirable:
- interest in one or more of the following research areas: economic sociology, historical sociology, (historical) political economy, historical social science, computational sociology
- advanced skill in quantitative, statistical methods (R, stata, Python), ideally also historical- comparative methodology or computational social sciences
- experience in database construction and management
- very good language skills in English, ideally more languages, codings skills
