The AHRC/DFG funded project Craft interactions in a New Kingdom industrial landscape (Egypt, 1550–1069 BCE), which is led be Dr. Frederik Rademakers (British Museum) and Dr. Anna Hodgkinson (Freie Universität Berlin), is seeking to employ a student research assistant for a period of two years (with the possibility of an extension), starting in March 2025 (41h/month). This project examines cross-craft interactions at the Egyptian site of Amarna in Middle Egypt, focussing on metals and vitreous materials.
Job description:
• Digitisation and curation of project data (analytical, photographic, fieldwork-related, etc.)
• Literature-based research (project-related)
• Planning of project-related travel (Support with booking flights, trains, etc., coordination with project partners)
• Inking/digital illustration of archaeological material in preparation for publication
• Editorial assistance for project-related publications
• Possibility of participating in archaeological fieldwork (depending on relevant experience)
Desirable:
• Study in Egyptology or similar
• Good understanding of ancient Egyptian urban archaeology and craft production
• Experience working with large collections of varied data
• Archaeological fieldwork experience (2 months minimum) and good understanding of stratigraphy (Harris Matrix, site-formation processes)
• reliability
• Relevant experience using Office (e.g. MS Office or OpenOffice/LibreOffice), image processing (e.g. Photoshop/Gimp/Illustrator/Inkscape), data management software (e.g. MS Excel or open source equivalent) and presentation software (e.g. MS PowerPoint or open source equivalent)
• Very good knowledge of English and German (both: at least C1 level)
• Experience working with remains related to high-temperature industrial processes or knowledge of relevant literature
• Experience working in settlement archaeology (e.g. Amarna)
• Illustration skills (ink, illustration software) for archaeological objects
• Experience with editorial work
