We are inviting applications for a student assistant position in the research group of Dr. Sanjam Chandna at Freie Universität Berlin. The student will support the Volkswagen Circularity-funded project “Lignocide”, which focuses on recycled and biogenic resources, particularly lignin, for developing sustainable biomaterials targeting agricultural applications. This interdisciplinary project focuses on lignin functionalization and development of biomaterials for application in agriculture. The successful candidate will conduct antimicrobial assays against relevant plant pathogens, support preparation and handling of biopolymer-based materials used in the assays.
Job description:
- Supporting in Preparation and handling of biopolymer-based materials
- Supporting in Evaluation of the inhibition efficacy of biopolymer-based materials using antimicrobial assays
Desirable:
- Background in Chemistry, Microbiology, Plant Sciences or a related field
- Experience with working in a biosafety lab setting (e.g., handling bacterial or fungal cultures)
- Basic knowledge of antimicrobial or inhibition assays
- Good data handling and data processing skills (e.g., in Excel and GraphPad Prism, Python etc.)
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken (at least B2 level)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
