„We […] have an emphasis on being happy, well-rounded postgraduates“ wrote doctoral candidates at Glasgow University about their project eSharp which brought together transferable skills and research work by setting up their very own peer-reviewed e-journal.

It is our goal at Dahlem Research School to help you become a happy and well-rounded researcher by offering skills training and networking opportunities beyond the traditional setting of individual supervision and research groups.

This year, we will expand your possibilities with Project Skills DIY! You are invited to design your own tool or course that will kick off your career and make your research more visible! We are looking for new and inspiring ideas that apply transferable skills „in the real world“ of academia (or beyond). Possible areas for improvement include but are not restricted to:

• Science communication with the broad public (e.g. Citizen Science projects)
• Academic networking and interdisciplinary exchange (e.g. blogs)
• Digital infrastructures and media (e.g. podcasts or repositories)
• Data publishing (e.g. open access publication models)

Find a new and as of yet untested way in getting your research across. Think about the creative use of (digital) media in academia. Develop a new format to teach fellow researchers about effective time and project management. These are just some topics you might want to explore but you are more than welcome to draft your own format.

What WE offer

With a budget of 2000€ you will implement your project as part of Dahlem Research School’s summer schedule and get first-hand experience in running a project (rather than being run by it…).

On December 4, 2018 the Project Skills DIY will be kicked-off with the announcement of the two selected project groups. Throughout the next 6 months, the winners get the chance to bring their project to life over a series of meetings and workshops, both offline and online.

 

What YOU (have to) do

• gather a group of up to four doctoral researchers
• draft an outline (max. 3 pages)
• send it to Gergana Baeva (qualifications@drs.fu-berlin.de) at DRS until November 25^th 2018
