What did you study at Freie Universität?

I studied Publizistik und Kommunikationswissenschaften and Nordamerikastudien from 1999 to 2005.

What is your current profession?

I work as Senior Manager for Internal Communications at HDI Global SE.

What is your favorite place at Freie Universität?

The Cafeteria at the John-F.-Kennedy-Institut in Lansstraße.

Why is this place at Freie Universität special to you?

I have been there between all my classes at Campus Dahlem to catch a coffee or a snack, to work, to interact, to discuss everything from pop culture, things happening in Berlin, general and university politics, German and American relations. And hear new music, too. You always met everyone from the institute there - students, staff, teachers. Student-run, a place of free eye-level high-caliber intellectual, political and sometimes just plain nonsensical exchange. I will never forget the discussions on the university strike with virtually all members of the institute, which was carried out in an unparalleled atmosphere of mutual respect and a shared will to form a joint, informed stance between all participants. Something I had never experienced at any of my other schools previously.

How has Freie Universität changed you?

Freie Universität exposed me to innumerous schools of thought and to challenge each. Never to blindly accept any doctrine, but to stay open-minded for the better idea or opinion.

What have you changed at Freie Universität/in the world/...?

Myself. Hopefully for the better.

How do you think the university/teaching and learning spaces/students/learning will change in the future?

Using the chances of virtual IT-based exchange to become even more international and “live” in interacting with the academic community worldwide.
