What did you study at Freie Universität?
I studied from 1984 to 1994 at Freie Universität and completed my studies there as Dr. rer. nat. at the Department of of Mathematics and Computer Science. I also hold a diploma in Theoretical Physics and a Magister Artium degree in Ancient Greek.
What is your current profession?
I am General Manager of Saint-Gobain Research at Cavaillon, France.
What is your favorite place at Freie Universität?
My favorite place was the Institute of Ancient Philology in the Ehrenbergstraße.
Why is this place at Freie Universität special to you?
Here I learned about the beauty of Greek literature, theatre and language.
How has Freie Universität changed you?
I learned what critical and honest intellectual thinking is. I had the chance to learn from great professors who made my world greater and deeper as it was before.
What have you changed at Freie Universität/in the world/...?
My wife and me have brought three wonderful women to this world to whom we try to teach what we have learned.
How do you think the university/teaching and learning spaces/students/learning will change in the future?
No idea. Personally, I am against all too early specialization. The word “University” comes from “universal”…
