Alumni dinner in Mexico City
News from Nov 12, 2024
The Liaison Office São Paulo and South America, together with the Alumni Office of Freie Universität Berlin, hosted a dinner for alumni in Mexico City on November 6, 2024 as part of its participation in the Europosgrados postgraduate fair.
The very close connection between Mexico and Germany, in particular with the Institute for Latin American Studies at the FU Berlin, celebrated another chapter on this evening. A total of 19 alumni from various fields attended, including of chemistry, philosophy, law, economics, sociology, literature and cultural studies. Most of them are now active in research and teaching, but also in public administration and the NGO sector.
After a short welcome address from the hosts Christian Lazar, head of the Liaison Office São Paulo and Prof. Dr. Marianne Braig, the alumni spread across two large tables began the dinner conversation. The current career paths of the alumni were some of the main topics of the evening, along with thought experiments on possible new developments due to the new Mexican government and memories of their favorite places during their time in Berlin. A very lively point of discussion was the question of whether there is good authentic Mexican cuisine to enjoy in Berlin - it was very pleasing to note that the Mexicans in Berlin can definitely recommend some restaurants.
The experiences made in Berlin and at Freie Universität have influenced the alumni present in many ways and are considered very valuable by them. It was noticeable that the existing contacts and cooperations are still very actively maintained. They pass these on to their networks and to future generations of students and researchers in Mexico and Latin America.
