Applying in English (Bewerben in englischer Sprache)

Successfully navigating the English language job market can be a challenge – crafting that perfect application goes beyond simply translating your resume from your native language into English. What do English-language job descriptions really mean? What do potential employers look for in a great candidate? How can I format my resume and cover letter so that I stand out from the crowd?

About the workshop

In this workshop you will learn about the key differences between the German job market and international job markets.

  • Where should I look for English-language postings, and how do I interpret listed requirements? How can I tell which jobs I’m qualified for?

  • What documents do I need when applying in English? What should not be included in my application package?

  • What do I need to know about the format and structure of my CV/resume and cover letter? What should I include in my application, and what should I leave out?

  • How can I best present my experiences and skills? What does self-marketing look like in English?

  • What should I do to prepare for a job interview in English? What interview questions can I expect to be asked and how can I prepare myself to best answer these questions?

  • What do I need to know about the selection criteria for jobs in the English-speaking job market? How might cultural values in English-speaking countries affect employer expectations for job candidates?

(In this workshop we’ll focus primarily on the global English-language job market and include additional information as well as self-study resources on the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and India.)
