Egypt Joins Horizon Europe – Expanding Opportunities for Research and Innovation
09.11.2025
Egypt’s association with Horizon Europe marks a milestone, granting full participation and paving the way for new collaborative research opportunities across key fields
A significant milestone in the regional research landscape: Egypt has officially concluded its association with Horizon Europe, the European Union’s flagship research and innovation funding program.
The agreement, announced on 30 October 2025, grants Egyptian researchers, universities, innovators and institutions full access to all components of the program. They can now lead international projects, contribute to cutting‑edge research, support national research reforms, and enhance institutional capacity building.
With this step, Egypt becomes the second African country, after Tunisia, to join Horizon Europe as an associated partner. This association opens new opportunities for collaborative research in key fields such as climate action, renewable energy, food security, health, and digital innovation, further strengthening links between Egypt and the European research community.
Horizon Europe, running from 2021 to 2027 with a budget of €93.5 billion, is designed to tackle global challenges, advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and boost the competitiveness and growth of the European Union. By joining, Egypt positions itself as a key partner in shaping solutions to pressing global issues while strengthening its own research and innovation ecosystem.
Next Steps: Egyptian institutions are encouraged to explore upcoming calls, build partnerships and take advantage of this historic opportunity to expand their international research footprint.
