On 11 November 2025, the Europa-Schule Kairo hosted this year’s DAAD Parent Information Evening, a dedicated event designed to help families navigate the wide range of study opportunities available in Germany and Egypt. Taking place one day after the DAAD Study Information Day at the DEO, the evening focused on equipping parents with the information they need to support their children in making well-informed decisions about their academic future.

Representatives from 14 German and 2 Egyptian universities, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo, and the German Embassy took part. The event began with an introduction to the German higher education system by the DAAD, followed by two rounds of university presentations that allowed parents to explore several institutions and programs. The German Embassy contributed valuable input by informing parents about the student visa procedures — an essential topic for all future applicants.

Freie Universität Berlin was represented by Hoda El Mahgoub, Head of the Cairo Liaison Office, alongside Sebastian Mebes from the Academic Advising Service and Alexandra Bährenfeldt, from the International Office of the Faculty of Law of FU Berlin. Their participation offered parents direct insights into studying at FU Berlin, admission requirements, subject-specific pathways and guidance on preparing strong applications.

As travelling to Cairo is often difficult for many families from Alexandria, the organizers provided an online participation option for the first time. Parents joining virtually were able to follow the presentations live, see the slides and hear the discussions in real time. 

The evening once again proved to be a valuable platform for families seeking clarity on degree programs, application procedures, funding opportunities, and mobility options. The Cairo Liaison Office of Freie Universität Berlin was pleased to be part of this important initiative and looks forward to continued cooperation with German schools across Egypt.
