Una Europa One Health Summer School - 16-20 June 2025

Una Europa One Health Summer School, 16-20 June 2025

This year’s Una Europa One Health Summer School is a unique opportunity for doctoral researchers from our alliance to come together here at Freie Universität Berlin and join hands in an immersive learning and group work experience. Under the theme of “Bridging disciplines for One Health solutions”, participants will explore the concept of One Health at a deeper level and broaden the understanding of this framework from interdisciplinary viewpoints in a structured series of courses and workshops. Join us in Berlin from 16-20 June 2025.

Why should I apply to this Summer School?

The programme titled “Bridging disciplines for One Health solutions” is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on, project-based learning in order to address pressing challenges at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. Participants will engage with experts and peers in an interactive environment, developing practical solutions to real-world problems.

What can I expect from the Summer School?

The One Health Summer School at Freie Universität Berlin will be hosted at the Veterinarium Progressum, a venue equipped with state-of-the-art facilities on the campus of the School of Veterinary Medicine. The courses and workshops at the Summer School are aimed at providing theoretical knowledge and practical application, leveraging the expertise of leading professionals in the One Health field.

This is a selection of topics we would like to explore at the Summer School:

  • Human-animal interactions.
  • Soil health.
  • One Health in wildlife.
  • Digital health and data science approaches.
  • Food safety.
  • Agriculture.
  • Resilient ecosystems.
  • Historical contexts and perspectives of One Health.
  • One Health and ethics.

The main programme will be hosted at Freie Universität Berlin’s campus. In addition to that, there will be a field trip to a local farm in the surrounding area of Berlin.

After successfully completing the Summer School, students will earn 3 ECTS.

What is the cost of the Summer School?

There is no tuition fee for participants. Each participant is responsible for organising and financing their own accommodation for the duration of the five-day on-site programme at Freie Universität Berlin.

At most Una Europa partner universities, doctoral researchers can apply for Erasmus+ funding for Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) from their own university. Please note that the availability of funding depends on your home university. They will advise you on the availability and format of funding. Please contact your university’s institutional contact at the list below for more information on funding options.

Please note: Erasmus+ funding for BIP mobility is not available for doctoral researchers from KU Leuven. Doctoral researchers from Edinburgh and Zürich are not eligible for Erasmus+ funding but may receive alternative funding from their home university.
