Prospective students who are interested in enrolling in a study program and do not have a certificate of general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur), but do have professional qualifications, can apply to study at Freie Universität Berlin under certain conditions. The application for the desired study program has to be sent to Hochschulstart, but a request for determination of the type of higher education entrance qualification (general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification) must be submitted to Freie Universität Berlin beforehand. After the review of the documents submitted is concluded, Freie Universität Berlin issues a certificate that has to be submitted to Hochschulstart when applying to the study program.

You will receive a certification in the mail that you can send to Hochschulstart if you are applying there to study at Freie Universität Berlin.
The certificate issued by Freie Universität Berlin to accompany your application via Hochschulstart contains the following information:
If the higher education entrance qualification is not supposed to be earned until after a subject-specific entrance exam is passed (group 3), you will first receive an invitation to the entrance examination, which is held once each year, in June. If you pass the entrance exam, the certificate will be sent to you in early July so that you can submit it to Hochschulstart for subsequent consideration with your application documents.
