FUturist Awarding: Sustainability Projects at FU Berlin at the Mid-Term Event 2024

A tiny forest for the future is taking shape. Physics classes are being redesigned with FUturesLiteracy. Sustainability is discussed through podcasts. Room dividers create an optimal learning environment. Together, we grow with intergenerational education. On June 18, 2024, this year's FUturist teams demonstrated how this works at the FUturist mid-term event at the seminar center on the Dahlem campus.

The winners of the "Teaching and Learning Project FUturesLiteracy," "Podcast Zukunftslaube," "Project Firebugs," "Green Room Dividers at the Geosciences Library Lankwitz," and "FU Mini-Forest" took the stage and presented their interim results to a mixed audience in five-minute segments. The audience not only gave them their attention but also provided ideas for the future development of their projects, which will continue until the end of 2024.

You will soon be able to watch the teams' contributions as videos on their project pages.

In addition to the project presentations, the winner of the student photo competition "All the Beauty in Front of the Lens: We Are Looking for Your Biodiversity Hotspot!" was announced.

The event was moderated by Vanessa Löde and Klaas Wolff, both members of the FUturist jury 2024.

The event was framed by free prototyping on "Sustainability in International Cooperation" (contact person: Janina Taigel), "Upcycling FU Products from Banners," and the "fainin Rental Platform."

To address the question, "Successfully Managing Sustainability: Is It Possible?", a small exercise based on Ken Wilber's Integral Theory was held at the end of the day.

The day concluded with an outlook and an invitation to the digital Brown Bag Lunch for the 4th FUturist Call on August 26, 2024. Those who were able to stay enjoyed music and snacks while continuing to discuss opportunities for sustainable development at our university.

Further impressions of the day are described in the campus.leben article from July 24, 2024.

Approximately 45 people attended the event.

The total cost was approximately €1,700. About 80% was spent on video and photo production, around 16% on drinks and food, and about 4% on materials (certificates and gift baskets). The drinks, as well as vegan and vegetarian foods, were sourced from fair, ecological, and social suppliers, mostly regional.
