The Team

Isabella is a doctoral student at the Research Center for Sustainability (FFN) and is passionate about science communication. With the podcast, she aims to communicate complex connections from various disciplines in an easily understandable way to the public.

Laura is a master's student in Interdisciplinary Latin American Studies at the Latin America Institute (LAI) and is passionate about the transnational connections of ecological issues. She is particularly interested in decolonial and gender-specific perspectives on the climate crisis and sustainability. Through her involvement in the podcast, she aims to contribute to making these connections, which are scientifically examined at FU, more visible through science communication.

The Project Idea

Discourses around sustainability urgently need expert voices to counteract post-factual trends. Numerous members of FU deal with various sustainability topics, from resource protection to mobility and gender equality.

The ZukunftsLaube podcast aims to give a voice to people at FU who deal with ecological, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability. The goal is to create a platform that informs about sustainability research, as well as practical projects on campus, particularly targeting sustainability research, but also communicating complex connections as understandably as possible for all interested parties, both within and outside the university. In each episode, a researcher or activist is interviewed about their focus topic. Experts from various disciplines, from political science to meteorology to philosophy, are invited.

In the long term, the podcast aims to provide an overview of the diverse sustainability research and practices at FU.

Conclusion and outlook

The first episode, “Ecological grief? How to take action anyway,” with Janet Wagner, is available in German language on Spotify and YouTube.

The second episode (in German) focuses on the concept of sustainability and the new book “Sovereign Decisions: On the Rise and Fall of Democracy” by and with Philipp Lepenies. The episode is available on Spotify and YouTube, too.

Further episodes will be shared here and on the SustainIT! channel.

We look forward to exploring the topic of sustainability on a multidisciplinary level and meeting a wide range of researchers and committed individuals from various institutes at our university.
