Under Section 2 of the German Scholarship Program Act, Freie Universität Berlin is obliged to review the aptitude and academic performance of Deutschlandstipendium scholarship recipients at least once a year. The applicable documents must be submitted by May 31 of the respective year. We will send you all the information you need in the course of the summer semester as well as a request to submit the necessary documents.

You will typically need to send us the following documents:

1. An up-to-date overview of your academic performance (transcript of records) - printout from Campus Management system (overview of modules with completed and uncompleted modules)
2. The filled-out form “Information on the Status of Your Degree Program”
3. An academic letter of reference evaluating your performance, completed by a university lecturer/instructor (does not apply to the funding period 2023/2024 due to the pandemic)
4. Extension request for the maximum funding period (where applicable) if the standard time to degree comes to an end upon completion of the summer semester 2022 (meaning that the winter semester 2022/2023 would already require an approved extension). Please note that your individual standard time to degree might have changed due to the pandemic.

In the case of points two to four, you will need the forms sent to you by the Deutschlandstipendium Office over the course of the summer semester.

The performance review covers the ongoing funding period lasting from October 1 to September 30 of the funding year in question. You are required to participate in the examination even if your degree program (and thus your funding from the Deutschlandstipendium) ends when the summer semester is over.

You can ask any lecturer or instructor whose course you successfully completed during the previous semester (first six months of your funding period) to fill out the academic reference letter.

Please give the form that we have sent you to your chosen referee. It does not have to be an in-depth academic reference. We just need a short assessment of your performance.

Your referee can either send us the academic reference via email to deutschlandstipendium@fu-berlin.de or hand it into our office.

We will only get in contact with you if we have any queries about your performance review. In all other cases you will receive a notification on whether you will continue to receive financial support or whether your request for an extension of the maximum funding period has been successful.

You should contact your lecturer/instructor or your examination office and ask them to enter your credit points into Campus Management. Please contact us if this is not possible and you are unable to provide proof of your academic performance from the previous semester.
