While Marlena Wegner and Amelia Keilbach sit in front of their laptops for the video interview, the outside thermometer displays minus 15 degrees Celsius. The pair claim that this is “moderate” for Spitsbergen. The biology students from Freie Universität have been studying and conducting research since July 2021 at the University Centre in Svalbard, the northernmost higher education institute in the world.
