Erasmus+ Doctoral Mobility for traineeships

Enrolled doctoral students can participate in Erasmus+ student mobility for internships.

The funding opportunities for doctoral students include

- regular long-term internships abroad,

- short-term stays (optionally in combination with a virtual phase from home) and

- blended mobilities with a short-term physical stay abroad and a virtual phase.

The respective funding conditions can be found below.

PhD students with an employment contract with FU Berlin can also participate in Erasmus+ staff mobility, mainly for Erasmus+ teaching stays.

Within the regular long-term mobility, internships with a duration of 2 to 12 months are funded. The eligibility conditions for PhD students are the same as for general Erasmus+ student mobility internship funding. To participate in the student mobility format, you must be enrolled at FU Berlin.

For more information, please visit the website https://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/international/studium_ausland/erasmus_praktikum/index.html.

Short internships abroad in combination with a virtual phase at home can be funded as Erasmus+ blended mobility. The physical internship abroad lasts 5 to 30 days. There are no time requirements for the virtual phase.

For more information, visit www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/international/studium_ausland/erasmus_praktikum/blended_mobility_praktikum.html.

Short-term internships of doctoral students can be funded as short-term mobility if a long-term internship is not feasible. An additional virtual phase at the home location is optional. The short-term internship physically carried out abroad lasts 5 to 30 days. An Erasmus+ mobility grant may be awarded for the period spent abroad.

The Erasmus+ grant will continue to be used mainly for long-term mobilities of two to twelve months. In justified individual cases, funding for a short-term internship can be applied for. The reasons why long-term mobility is not an option must be clearly explained. Possible reasons include, for example:

  • Health: chronic illnesses, degree of disability of at least 20%,
  • Family: caring for children or relatives in need of care,
  • Study program related: study programs that do not allow for extended absences (e.g., due to ongoing experiments in the laboratory).
