Philosophy with Teacher Training

- Major subject in a combi bachelor with teacher training
- Minor subject in a combi bachelor with teacher training

In the state of Berlin, Ethics is a mandatory subject for all school types from grades 7 to 10. Philosophy is offered in grades 11 to 12 (or 13). The Philosophy/Ethics degree program prepares students for teaching both subjects. A specialized degree for only one of these subjects is not available in Berlin.

The Philosophy/Ethics program is offered by the Institute of Philosophy as both a core subject and a module program. It must be combined with another teaching-related subject and the study area Lehramtsbezogene Berufswissenschaft (LBW, Teacher-Related Professional Studies).

You can find the current study regulations for Philosophy here. On page 71, you will find an exemplary study plan for the Bachelor's program in Philosophy with a teaching option (90 LP), while page 72 presents an exemplary study plan for the 60 LP module offering in Philosophy. Both provide a good overview of the modules and the structure of the program. A detailed explanation of the program structure can be found here.

The Lehramtsbezogene Berufswissenschaft (LBW, Teacher-Related Professional Studies) is a mandatory component of all teaching-related Bachelor's programs. It consists of two educational science modules, the module Deutsch als Zweitsprache (German as a Second Language), and two subject-specific didactics modules. Additionally, one of the educational science modules includes a multi-week orientation internship. A detailed description of each module can be found in the study regulations. An exemplary study plan for the LBW-ISS-GYM study area, including the core subject and the 60 LP module offering, is available on page 45 of these study regulations.
