Specialized Academic Courses

Application & Eligibilitiy Requirements

  • Self-organized courses at universities or other scientific institutions abroad. 
  • Minimum duration is 5 days, maximum funding period is 6 weeks.
  • Full enrollment at the FU Berlin is required.
  • Conference trips cannot be funded. However, there is the DAAD Conference Travel Programme.
  • Virtual/online courses are not eligible for funding.
  • Please also read the general PROMOS grant conditions.

Required Documents

The link will take you to the online application portal. You can register via your ZEDAT account. The form is only available during the application periods.

Motivation letters should be written in German. Only justified cases give student’s the permission to write in English. We recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader DC to fill out the form for reasons of compatibility. Please refrain from submitting handwritten applications. Mozilla Firefox may not support the application form.

  • Transcript of Records

As transcript of academic records, you can submit the printout “Übersicht Noten und Punkte” from the Campus Management system. Alternatively, you can submit a transcript which has been signed by your faculty’s examination office. Masters students must additionally submit their undergraduate degree certificate and transcript for their undergraduate degree. Doctoral candidates must submit a copy of their Bachelor's and Master's degree certificates and the corresponding transcripts of records.

  • Certificate of Enrollement

You are required to submit a proof of enrollment at the FU.

  • Proof of Nationality

We kindly ask you to submit a copy of an identity card or passport.

Letters of recommendation must be completed by a professor or teacher at FU using our form. Please note that language teachers or non-FU researchers are not accepted. The document can be written in either English or German. We recommend to first download the form and then fill in the various fields. If the person filling out the form signs it digitally, then the completed form must be emailed directly to us by said person. If the applicant submits the form with the rest of their application documents, the person filling out the form must also include the institute's stamp.

Skills of the host institution's language of instruction must be proven. The DAAD language certificates that are issued by the FU Berlin’s language center can be used for this purpose. Alternatively, you can submit a TOEFL or IELTS language test. In any case, appropriate supporting documents must be included, otherwise your application will not be considered. Language certificates should not be older than two years.

Exceptions:

If the language of your course differs from the local language of the host country, please see the website with information on language certificates.

Native speakers can submit their high school diploma or other proof that they have completed an academic degree in the respective language.

Students and doctoral candidates who are currently enrolled in (doctoral) degree programs at FU that are taught exclusively in the relevant foreign language and whose language skills have already been verified upon admission to the study program do not need to submit any further proof of language proficiency for the PROMOS application.
