Language Requirements
The foreign language skills required for each individual Erasmus study varies for each course and host university. In general, students should acquire basic knowledge of the respective national language in order to attend courses and pass exams. In some subjects, the language skills must be proven with the help of tests/certificates. For example, many UK universities require a minimum score in the TOEFL test from Erasmus students. To find out what language requirements you are required to meet, please consult with the coordinators of the FU and the host university.
Mandatory language tests
Since October 2014, the European Commission expects Erasmus students to complete an online language test for five major European languages (German, English, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch). This test must be completed prior to the mobility. It is not a selection criteria for admission into the Erasmus program. It should be taken after the mobility as well in order to record any language skill progress.
All Erasmus students will receive information about this procedure after they have successfully applied to the program.
