Primo

The library portal Primo is the University Library's central search engine for searching for books, journals, journal articles, databases and special collections, such as DVDs of feature films/series, comics, rare books and maps.

Databases

The University Library provides an extensive range of databases for all subject areas at Freie Universität Berlin. The offer includes licensed and free databases for literature references, full text archives, fact and image databases, video archives and more.

Interlibrary loan and document delivery services

You can order media or copies of articles not held by the University Library from other libraries in Berlin, Germany or abroad via interlibrary loan.

You can order an interlibrary loan via the portal of the Kooperativer Bibliotheksverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV). You will need a valid library card or a campus card from the FU or Charité.

Purchase suggestion

To supplement the University Library's collection, you can use the option of a purchase suggestion via the Primo library portal.

Digitization services

The University Library offers digitization services:

  • You can have chapters, sections, tables of contents, etc. of books digitized.
  • You can order scans of articles from printed journal volumes via the Primo library portal.

Citation management software support you in the publication of scientific texts.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are free educational materials of any kind that are openly licensed and can be used free of charge. Examples of materials include presentations, graphics and worksheets, also entire courses or textbooks can be released for reuse as OER.

The Coordination of University Collections supports the research and teaching collections at the various departments and institutes of Freie Universität Berlin in the preservation, indexing, digitization and presentation of their (object) holdings.

Support with researching comprehensive interview collections

The University Library offers you access to important interview collections. One thematic focus is on National Socialism and the Holocaust. We are happy to support you in researching the collections and integrating existing interviews into your research and teaching.

Research in the interview portal “Oral-History.Digital”

The Oral-History.Digital interview portal developed at the University Library is the central place to find (German-language) oral history interviews in Germany. The portal allows you to search for audio and video interviews conducted by various institutions on different topics over the last few decades. We are happy to help you find relevant interviews for your research and teaching.

Interviews in teacher training

With multilingual online applications for (school) learning with video interviews on the topics of forced labor under National Socialism and the Holocaust, you can convey the didactic potential of these sources to your student teachers. We would be happy to advise you on their use in teaching.
