Freie Universität Berlin has joined the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). The goal of this Europe-wide initiative is to evaluate research performance in a holistic and quality-oriented way – rather than relying on metrics such as the Journal Impact Factor.

By joining, Freie Universität commits to developing an action plan within one year and implementing a reform cycle within five years. In the future, contributions such as research data, software, knowledge transfer, and open science practices will also be taken into account.

The University Library is coordinating the university-wide process and supporting researchers with infrastructure, advice, and the participatory development of discipline-specific assessment approaches.
