At the Una Europa biodiversity workshop, which lasted several days, researchers, sustainability experts, employees and students came together to discuss biodiversity strategies, how they can promote biodiversity on their respective campuses and how nature conservation can work in big cities. In interactive sessions, representatives from all universities were able to share their formats in person and online to discuss future cross-institutional collaboration to preserve biodiversity in urban areas. The Universidad Complutense Madrid, for example, is a pioneer in mapping insect species, as is the University of Helsinki with the planting of forests and interactive gardens.
Excursions around the campus and through the botanical garden led to lively discussions. The FU's sustainability initiatives were also presented, such as the Tiny Forest, the Blätterlaube and the Blooming Campus. On the last day, the focus was on concretizing the next steps and planning joint projects. For example, all universities want to plant a tree on their campus at the same time to symbolize the commitment to biodiversity everywhere.
