What additional funding is available for grantees that travel with child(ren)?

With an application for additional funding for recipients who are embarking on their mobility abroad with a child/children, the additional financial requirements associated with the mobility abroad due to taking the child/children with them will be calculated individually.

Who can receive funding?
Additional funding can be applied for for recipients who are traveling abroad with a child/children if
- it is a natural, adopted or foster child and
- the child/children are taken along during the entire stay abroad and
- the child is a minor.

What can be applied for?
When applying for additional financial support, only additional costs incurred abroad as a result of taking the child/children with you can be applied for or approved by the NA DAAD.

Approval is based on the calculation of the need to take the child/children abroad and is only granted if other bodies (e.g. health insurance, social welfare office, BAföG abroad, employer, etc.) do not cover these costs. In order to be able to support as many recipients as possible, we ask that the funds are used responsibly and economically.

The maximum amount per application for mobility of university staff is 15,000 euros.

How to apply?
The application for additional financial support is prepared together with the recipients; Freie Universität Berlin acts as the applicant.
The application must be accompanied by supporting documents and explanations of the need for the requested funds.
The application must be submitted to the NA DAAD for review at least two months before the start of the stay together with the supporting documents. The NA DAAD decides on approval on the basis of the documents submitted and the funds available.
