Students will design and execute fully-fledged research projects examining children’s moral reasoning about real-life social issues of the students’ choosing (e.g., cyberbullying, corruption, the environment). Working in small teams, students will gain hands-on experience with every step of the research process: designing interview materials, generating hypotheses, collecting data by interviewing children, analyzing data, and submitting results for publication.
This course is an excellent fit for Master’s level or advanced Bachelor’s level students who are ready to embark on an independent project after having had a background in research methods and statistics. Students in the fields of psychology, sociology, education, or journalism would benefit from this course. The course will meet in-person or online for 2 hours per week over 16 weeks, but additional time outside the course will be needed for data collection or collaborating with team members.
