Recognition of competencies acquired in BUA courses and programs
You can attend BUA Modules, BUA Certificate Programs and StuROPx projects outside your degree program at all four Berlin University Alliance institutions. The credit points you earn here are not automatically assigned to your degree program, but must first be recognized by your examination board. In some cases, there are already general recognition decisions or recommendations for recognition of individual modules.
Below you will find information for students of Freie Universität Berlin on the recognition of competencies acquired in BUA courses.
How can credits from BUA courses and programs be recognized?
Credits that you have earned in modules outside your degree program can be recognized either in areas of the degree program that are intended for the inclusion of external modules – e.g. in an interdisciplinary elective area or in an affine area – or the attended module is equivalent in its content and qualification objectives to a subject-specific module of your degree program or a module in the General Professional Skills area (ABV) and can be recognized there.
Please clarify in advance with your examination board or the relevant contact person of your degree program whether recognition of a specific module is possible. If the examination board has not yet issued a general recognition decision for the module, you must submit an application for recognition after completing the module. At the following link you will find general information in German on applying for recognition and crediting of achievements.
Recognition in the ABV study area
For the recognition of credit points in the study area "General Professional Skills" (ABV) of the Bachelor's degree programs, please do not contact your examination board directly, but rather the contact points listed on the information pages of the ABV study area (exception: competence area “Subject-related additional qualifications”).
Recommendations for recognition in the ABV skills area “Research Practices" ("Forschungsorientierung") exist for the projects of the Student Research Opportunities Programx (X-Tutorials and X-Student Research Groups) and for certain BUA Modules. In these recommendations you can find the module of the ABV study and examination regulations (German) the recommendation refers to. Please submit the application for recommendation in the ABV skills area "Research Practices" ("Forschungsorientierung") to the ABV Office and note the information on how to apply for recognition (German) in this skills area.
