Language Requirements:

Undergraduate Students (Type U):

• For participation in English-taught academic courses:
  TOEFL 90 / IELTS 6.5 / Cambridge Certificate C1 Advanced / Proof that English is the sole language of instruction in the degree program

• For participation in Japanese-taught academic courses:
  JLPT N1 or higher / Graduation from a Japanese-language secondary school

• For participation in Japanese language courses:
  FU language certificate B2

Graduate Students (Type G):

Language requirements depend on the faculty. For detailed information on the required scores, please visit the University of Tokyo website.

At least one of the listed language certificates must be submitted at the time of application.

Additional Scholarships:

If possible, eligible students may be nominated for JASSO. Exchange students may receive further information after passing the application process sucessfully. 

Exchange Programs:

Undergraduate students may be nominated for the U-STEP program. 

Graduate students may be nominated for the G-STEP program.
