DAAD

Study worldwide!

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is an association of German universities and student bodies. It supports students, graduates and academics from Germany and abroad in more than 100 programs.

Funding is provided for annual, short-term and individual scholarships as well as group programs, study trips and internships. The DAAD also supports exchange programs, guest lectureships and lecturers at foreign universities as well as project-related scientific cooperation between German and foreign universities.

You can find a first overview in the DAAD brochure. It is very worthwhile to read these pages. The brochure is both exciting and very informative (only available in German).

To support the search for suitable programs or scholarships, the DAAD has developed a new scholarship database: www.auslands-stipendien.de.

In addition, FAQs have been developed around the topic of scholarship applications, which you can access at the following links:

Please note:

  • Not only German citizens can apply for a DAAD scholarship, but also citizens of other countries, provided they are studying at a German university or are pursuing a doctorate and plan to graduate from there.
  • Doctoral candidates with research projects can no longer apply for the one-year fellowship program for graduate students; however, the postdoc program is still open to them. However, master's thesis research conducted while pursuing a master's degree abroad is eligible for funding in the Annual Graduate Fellowship Program.
  • Proof of language proficiency at the time of application is be provided by the Language Verification Form, completed by the language centers or foreign language instructors at the student's university. The form, as well as a list of exempt language certificates for which proof on DAAD form can be waived, can be found under the following links:
