Specialized Information Services (SIS)
The "Specialized Information Services" (SIS) Programme
Since 2012, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has been funding the "Specialized Information Services" Programme to establish national infrastructures that provide subject-specific information for academic research and scholarship.
The specialized information services are mostly operated by specialized academic libraries that have a profile close to the respective subject. The core tasks of specialized information services include options for nationwide literature search and the provision of access to subject-specific information resources and licenses. This programme replaces the former nationwide "Special Subject Collections Programme" and is regularly evaluated by the DFG to guarantee continuous service development. Specialized information services can therefore be dissolved as well as newly established.
