Program

The Biodiversity Workshop 2025 brings together experts and students from Una Europa partner universities. Below, you will find key information about registration, the program, and logistical arrangements.

  • The workshop will be held on Campus Dahlem, accessible via subway station "Dahlem Dorf." Specific room details will be included in the program, which will be shared by the end of January.

The workshop will take place from February 19–21, 2025, at Freie Universität Berlin, Campus Dahlem.

Previous Thematic Preparation Sessions:

  • Session 1 (26.09.2024): Focused on biodiversity strategies at Una Europa partner universities, with insights into monitoring activities by UCM.

  • Session 2 (05.12.2024): Highlighted an ecosystem service approach by the University of Helsinki and biodiversity-related campus initiatives.

The Biodiversity Workshop is a key initiative within the Una Europa network, a European university alliance focused on fostering collaboration in teaching, research, and campus activities. This workshop aligns with the "Health and Resilience" action area of the Una Europa Sustainability and Climate Strategy, which emphasizes institutional responsibility in sustainability and biodiversity.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers, educators, students, and sustainability professionals from Una Europa partner universities to collaboratively discuss biodiversity strategies and explore practical solutions. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, share best practices, and plan joint projects to promote biodiversity across campuses.

The finalized program is available for download here.

Workshop Goals:

  • Foster in-depth discussions on biodiversity measures across teaching, research, and operations.
  • Plan joint activities, such as species monitoring, COIL formats, and international campaigns (e.g., tiny forests).
  • Promote student engagement and participation in sustainability projects.
  • Develop long-term teaching and research projects to establish "nature-positive universities," contributing to species protection and biodiversity.

This aligns with Una Europa’s Strategy 2030 milestone on environmental sustainability and the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Read the Una Europa Sustainability and Climate Strategy here.
