A joint online workshop on the Nagoya Protocol will take place on November 18 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. It will be hosted by Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité.
What are the compliance obligations of researchers, what happens in the event of non-compliance? In addition to an expert input from the Nagoya HUB with opportunities for everyone to ask questions, the procedures at HU, FU, TU and Charité will be explained in breakout rooms and needs will be queried.
Please register in advance. This can be done until November 17 via the HU website.
About:
The coordination office for research integrity of FU Berlin invites you to an information session about the implications of the Nagoya Protocol for researchers working with biological material from abroad.
If you are doing research with biological material (excluding human DNA) that comes from outside Germany, you need to understand the basics of the Nagoya Protocol and ABS and what are your obligations as a researcher in Germany.
FU Berlin recognizes the importance of compliance with this international framework and supports its implementation. In this information event, the German Nagoya Protocol HuB project will share its expertise with you and give you relevant insights and necessary information to assess whether your research might also have ABS obligations to take into consideration.
During this information event, we will go step by step through what researchers need to know and do to be compliant with any obligations stemming from the Nagoya Protocol and the EU ABS regulation. You will hear about the user checks that have already started in Germany, what are some of the direct consequences for being non-compliant (e.g. fines, embargo of material and publications, etc.), and tools and tips already available for you to use and inform yourself. We will also have plenty of time for you to ask questions.
