Since April 2023, Luise Kratt is doing her doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jule Specht at the Chair of Personality Psychology at Humboldt University. Her doctorate focuses on the bidirectional relationships between different personality traits and civic engagement. To this end, she analyzes the influence of personality on social support processes during the corona pandemic as well as on social and political engagement in the German civilian population in the context of the Russian war against Ukraine. She also investigates the question of whether civic engagement in the form of voluntary services has an influence on the volunteer’s personality in return: Do people who complete a voluntary social year (Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr, FSJ) or a voluntary service abroad, for example, develop differently than non-volunteers? Can these services contribute to making young people responsible and active citizens?
