University of Namibia Delegations Visit Freie Universität Berlin
Nov 25, 2025
From 10 to 14 November 2025, a high-level delegation from the University of Namibia (UNAM) visited Freie Universität Berlin. The delegation was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kenneth Matengu and Prof. Anna Marais, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The visit aimed to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two universities and to identify new areas of mutual interest for future cooperation.
During their stay, the guests met with several units of Freie Universität, including the Departments of Earth Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, the Berlin University Alliance, and the Berlin Center for Global Engagement. In a meeting with Prof. Dr. Verena Blechinger-Talcott, Vice President for International Affairs, two key agreements were signed: a Memorandum of Understanding between the universities and a faculty-level cooperation agreement between their respective veterinary faculties. The agreement on the FU side was signed by Prof. Dr. Marc Drillich, Dean for Research of the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
The programme also included a meeting with the President of the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) as well as a joint visit to the Humboldt Forum, focusing on global academic cooperation and knowledge exchange.
In the following week, from 17 to 21 November, Freie Universität welcomed a second UNAM delegation composed of researchers from various academic fields. This visit further supported the expansion of joint research activities and the development of new collaborative initiatives.
Together, the visits highlight the close and growing partnership between Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Namibia, founded on a shared commitment to international cooperation, research excellence, and societal engagement.
