In an extraordinary professorship, the university works together with a non-university research institution to appoint a professor. This professor generally has a leadership role at the research institution. This ensures that the non-university and university research institutions complement each other.
Extraordinary professorships are based on a cooperation agreement that includes provisions on the professor’s teaching obligations and on costs and procedural rules for the joint appointment.
At present, the following extraordinary professorships exist at Freie Universität Berlin:
- Institute of Sociology
Political Sociology with a Focus on Social Movements and Conflict
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Swen Hutter
- Institute of Media and Communication Studies
Journalism and Communication Studies with a Focus on Digitalization and Participation
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christoph Neuberger
Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)
