Extraordinary Professorships

In an extraordinary professorship, the university works together with a non-university research institution to appoint a professor. This professor generally has a leadership role at the research institution. This ensures that the non-university and university research institutions complement each other. 

Extraordinary professorships are based on a cooperation agreement that includes provisions on the professor’s teaching obligations and on costs and procedural rules for the joint appointment. 

At present, the following extraordinary professorships exist at Freie Universität Berlin:
