Liav Orgad is an Assistant Professor at IDC Radzyner School of Law (on leave) and a Marie Curie Fellow at the Freie Universität Berlin, Center for Area Studies and Department of Law. His research interests include constitutional identity, citizenship theory, comparative immigration law, and legal theory. In recent years, Orgad was a Tikvah Scholar at NYU Law School, a Jean-Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI), a Visiting Professor at FGV Direito Rio, and a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School, Columbia School of Law, Universität Luzern, and Roosevelt Academy, The Netherlands.

 

Orgad has published in the American Journal of Comparative Law, American Journal of Law & Economics, International Journal of Constitutional Law, and European Law Journal. His book, “The Cultural Defense of Nations: A Liberal Theory of Majority Rights,” is published by Oxford University Press (2015). Orgad’s research was awarded the Russell Sage Presidential Authority Award and the Israel Science Foundation Grant. He has won the Dan David Scholarship Prize for “scholars of exceptional promise” (2013), the Fulbright Alumni Prize (2012), the Eric Stein Senior Scholar Prize for “best scholarly article” by the American Society for Comparative Law (2011), and the Wolf Prize for “outstanding achievements of young scholars" (2010). He has been granted various scholarships, among others, Rothschild, Fulbright, Jean-Monnet, Marie Curie, and “Our Common Future” Fellowship by Volkswagen Foundation.

 

Orgad holds LL.D. and LL.M. degrees from the Hebrew University (2011, 2005), an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School (2007), and LL.B. and B.A. degrees from his alma mater, IDC Herzliya (2003).
