Transnational Activism in Global Politics
Laura Kotzur
Kommentar
Non-state actors and organisations play a crucial role in shaping global politics and have gained increasing attention and relevance for studying International Relations. This course will introduce students to key concepts and frameworks to understand the role of transnational activism in global politics such as transnational civil society, advocacy networks, and social movements. In the first block, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of these concepts and frameworks from a theoretical perspective. Having established these theoretical foundations, in the second block, we will examine empirical examples of non-state actors and organisations in historical and contemporary struggles e.g. for global and social justice, historical redress and reparations, or human rights. Beyond examining actors working toward emancipatory and liberatory goals, we will also look into how regressive and reactionary actors shape global politics. This course provides students with a critical perspective on the role of transnational activism and civil society in studying global politics. Schließen
