Kommentar
Marxian economics and the Frankfurt School of Critical theory are some of the most important and sophisticated tools to analyze the entanglements of capitalism, cultural industry, and domination. Its central figures in Germany were Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer and Walter Benjamin. While Marxian economy fuses a radical reconceptualization of Hegelian dialectics and theory of history with economic analysis, the Frankfurt School builds on Marx, while connecting him with Freudian psychoanalysis and sociological approaches to think the totality of society.
In this seminar, we will reconstruct the central tenets and theories of Marxian thought and the Frankfurt school, while also engaging closely with its reception in Latin America. Our reading of both Latin American and European scholars will touch upon the utilization and dissemination of Marxian and Frankfurt School thought across contexts such as queer studies, feminist thought, and communist organizing.
