Development Politics and the Global South
Matthew Sabbi
Kommentar
Development is generally conceived as a set of interventions aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of people in the so-called Global South. However, critical accounts view development, foremost, as a political process that is constructed with inherent interests and distributional goals. Hence, efforts to improve the well-being of one group leave others worse off. This introductory course goes beyond the traditional understanding of development in terms of economic growth. The course provides an overview of the evolution of concepts in development politics, current discourses and the critique of development interventions and practices. Schließen
