Intermediate Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences
Victor Rudakov
Kommentar
he course is designed for students with a background in social sciences and humanities who want to develop their skills in quantitative data analysis. The concepts of regression analysis and causal analysis will be explained in simple and understandable language, with examples based on real data and research papers from Economics, Sociology and Political Science. In the course, we will begin by refreshing the OLS framework, exploring its extensions and limitations. We will then proceed to cover logit and probit regressions, IV regression, panel data, and matching techniques. Previous basic experience with courses on Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences or any basic Statistics or Econometrics course covering OLS analysis is required. During the course, students will learn how to conduct quantitative analysis using Stata—a statistical package widely used by researchers in social sciences and international organizations. The class includes a theoretical part, in which we will examine the main methods of advanced quantitative analysis as applied to various research problems, and an applied part, which involves the practical application of these methods through coding in Stata.
Active Participation: During the course, students are required to complete several tests based on empirical data analysis and lecture content. Additionally, they must prepare a short research proposal for a project on a topic of their interest, including the proposed methodology for the study. To pass the course, students need to: i) pass the tests with at least 50% correct answers ii) present a research proposal. Schließen
