This course will introduce students to working with QGIS in a professional archaeological and anthropological context. Previous experience with GIS software is not required, but helpful. The entire process of data collection, processing, and presentation will be covered. Students will work through a number of exercises designed to demonstrate theory and methods using cartographic systems. An introduction to method and theory of GIS will accompany each exercise. Students will be provide time in the PC pool to complete each exercise. All exercises will be replicable on a personal computer and focus on leveraging open source software and data solutions. The final assignment will consist of a small portfolio of exercises demonstrating the students mastery of the material.
Technicalities:
The Workload will be 30 h participation in class, 80 h for preparation of classes and postprocessing of contents, and 60 h for the exam. To pass the module the following exam has to be passed: each week small exercises will be explained and applied in class; at the end students have to hand in the completed exercises.
A successful participation earns 5 credit points (LP). Schließen
