This course offers a historical overview of Korean Buddhist sculpture, tracing its development from the earliest known examples to contemporary practice. It aims to situate Korean Buddhist sculpture within the broader East Asian Buddhist artistic tradition while examining the distinct local developments that have shaped its forms and meanings. Students will engage in critical analysis of carvings, statues, and architectural sculptural elements, exploring their iconographic themes, doctrinal significance, and regional characteristics.
