This course provides a comprehensive introduction to ethics in social sciences, combining theoretical foundations and practical case studies. You will explore key concepts of academic integrity, authorship ethics, proper citation practices, data protection, privacy, and ethical considerations when conducting research involving humans and vulnerable groups. Through real-life case studies-including shocking instances of research misconduct in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and beyond-you will gain insights into the consequences of academic dishonesty and its impact on science. We will also discuss ethical dilemmas in research, such as those involving deception or studies conducted in autocratic regimes. Additionally, you will learn how to identify predatory and hijacked journals and develop practical skills for selecting credible sources for your term papers and theses.
