Kommentar
This method seminar is an introductory and practical course on qualitative digital research methods in media and communication studies. It provides an overview of key qualitative research approaches used in digital media and communication research, with a particular emphasis on text analysis of online news articles and social media content.
The course focuses on four primary qualitative research methods commonly applied in content analysis: framing analysis, (critical) discourse analysis, thematic analysis, and qualitative content analysis. In addition to learning how to implement these methods, students will also explore digital data analysis techniques and discuss reliability, validity, and ethical considerations in qualitative research.
By the end of the course, students will gain a clear understanding of the features and structures of different qualitative digital research methods. They will learn about the differences between quantitative and qualitative research in content analysis and develop the skills to select and apply appropriate methods to their own research topics of interest.
